APP and its holding group Sinar Mas have had a very bad name in term of transparency. The group has been defined as “pyramid companies and practice opaque interplay between private and public businesses”.
In 2015 APP anounced its commitment towards “complete transparency”. NGOs recognised that the company made substantial steps in the right direction, however complained that the old habit are still there, as APP refused to share relevant documentation, necesary to monitor the progress of the new policy.
The independent evaluation by the Rainforest Alliance, reported that several important documents related to the FCP implementation are not available on the Dashboard, and note that these steps represent a move towards greater transparency, but are not the degree of transparency suggested by APP’s statement that would adhere to “complete Transparency”.
