Work for us!
The EEPN has opportunities for two part time paper reduction activists to work on a project called Shrink Paper, in the UK. The aim of the project is to persuade 40 large paper-intensive companies, 10 government departments and 10 universities to use less paper.
The paper reduction activists will work with the support of the project co-ordinator (Mandy Haggith), research specialists, an advisory group within the UK and a management group of EEPN steering group members. The tasks of the activists will be as follows (with the work shared out according to the skills, experience and interests of the successful applicants).
- Liaison with target companies, government departments and universities, to encourage and monitor paper saving activity. This will include identifying and nurturing organisational contacts, and communicating by phone, email and in person where necessary.
- Gathering data about paper use, policies for reduction and paper saving activity by target organisations.
- Using the paper calculator and other tools to measure the benefits of target organisations’ paper reductions.
- Seeking out and writing up best practice case studies and useful tips for paper saving.
- Helping with communication of project results on the project website and social networks.
- Managing motivational seminar events for target organisations, including organising venues and catering, briefing presenters and sending and tracking invitations.
The successful applicants will have experience of working with companies and large organisations on environmental issues. Knowledge of waste reduction or environmental footprints would be useful. The activists should be based in the UK.
The posts will be 1 to 2 days per week, for up to one year. A second year of work is possible, though currently funding dependent. The paper reduction activists will make their own office arrangements and will be contracted on a self-employed basis by our funding host organisation in the UK, the Forest Peoples Programme. Remuneration will be £15-£25 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. The total budget for the two paper reduction activists’ fees is £19,200, to be shared according to distribution of work. Travel and other expenses will be paid for reasonable work-related costs.
